Uses of antimony ore
The uses of antimony ore are gaining importance due to its widespread application in daily life and industry. Understanding the uses of antimony ore is crucial for a better grasp of its significance.
The main raw materials for smelting antimony metal ore include stibnite, valentinite, and senarmontite, among 10 types of antimony minerals. There are over 120 antimony minerals in nature, with stibnite, valentinite, and antimony ochre being of industrial value. China is rich in antimony ore resources, holding a significant position globally in terms of reserves, output (antimony concentrate, antimony metal), and exports.
Antimony ore is a mineral containing antimony metal. Its primary use is in the production of antimony products. Antimony is often used as a component in other alloys, increasing their hardness and strength. Examples include battery plates, bearing alloys, printing alloys (type metal), solders, cable sheathing, and bullets. Lead-tin-antimony alloys can be used for thin sheet stamping dies. High-purity antimony is a doping element for semiconductor silicon and germanium. Antimony white (antimony trioxide) is one of the main uses of antimony; it is an important raw material for white pigments in enamel and paint, and as a flame retardant. Antimony sulfide (antimony pentasulfide) is a red pigment for rubber. Crude antimony (antimony trisulfide) is used in the production of matches and smoke agents.
The uses of antimony ore are related to antimony ore type classification. Antimony ore type classification: During geological exploration, ores should be classified into natural types and industrial types. The natural types of antimony ore can be divided into oxidized ore, mixed ore, and primary ore, three types, with standards based on the antimony oxidation rate (%): oxidized ore > 50%, mixed ore 30%~50%, primary ore < 30%. The industrial types of antimony ore, based on the characteristics of the material composition of antimony deposits in China, some are single antimony deposits, and more are multi-component associated deposits, with some antimony associated with gold, mercury, tungsten, etc. Therefore, the industrial types of antimony ore include: single antimony, antimony-gold, antimony-mercury, antimony-gold-tungsten, antimony-tungsten, etc.
